D. Manuel Vieira de Matos Library
The D. Manuel Vieira de Matos Library was established, giving continuity to the Library of the Conciliar Seminary of Braga, in 1987, when the Braga Centre of the Faculty of Theology was created. The Library took the name of that Archbishop of Braga, who, during his episcopal ministry (1914-1932), in addition to his pastoral concerns and activities, was involved both in the construction of a new Conciliar Seminary - premises where today the Faculty of Theology Library is located - and in the formative and academic development, namely, through the training of teachers for Seminars, the promotion of congresses, the renewal of sacred music and the creation of the Cathedral Treasury-Museum of Braga.
Currently, in the same enterprising and academic spirit, the Library is endowed with a documental collection of more than thirty-five thousand volumes, which is divided into two funds: general fund and reserved fund. The diversity of works (monographs, periodicals, databases and non-book material) found here are the result of acquisitions and private offers, which allow the institution of Memorials that both refer to great names that have marked the life and academic research throughout the history of Theology in Braga, and to the concentration of unique works, often offered by their own authors.
